EDUCATION
Barbara J. Zucker received her B.A. from Ursinus College in 1966, studied Fine Art at Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and at L’Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. She apprenticed with painter Richard Callner in his studio for three years after graduating from Tyler School of Art with a M.Ed. in 1971.
TEACHING, GALLERY MANAGEMENT,
AND VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
For many years, Barbara painted full-time in her studio before engaging in art-related work while continuing to paint. She taught painting and drawing at Ursinus College from 1982 to 1999. Later she served as Gallery Director at ViewPoint LLC Arts and then as coordinator for the Gallery at the Community Music School in Trappe. She is President Emerita of Philadelphia/Tri State Artists Equity, was Exhibition Chair of that organization for sixteen years, and did volunteer work for other arts organizations as well. She is also a member of The Philadelphia Water Color Society and The National League of American Pen Women.
EXHIBITIONS
Barbara’s award winning paintings have been exhibited in hundreds of solo, curated and juried exhibits over her long career. In 2014, the Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College honored her with a major retrospective titled, 40 Years of painting: A Visual Journal. Other recent show venues include Widner University Art Gallery, the Eisenhower Theatre in West Point, Montgomery County Community College, Littlefield Gallery in Maine, and The Hill School in Pottstown, PA.
COLLECTIONS
Her paintings are in the permanent collections of The Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College (a retrospective group of over forty works), The Reading Public Museum, Woodmere Art Museum, Rosemont College and numerous other public, corporate, and private collections.
JUROR AND LECTURER
Arts organizations, museums and colleges have called upon Barbara to present demonstrations, give lectures, or serve on panels. Among these are Ursinus College, Reading Public Museum, and the Perkiomen Valley Art Center. She has also served as a juror to select work and award prizes in juried exhibitions for Norristown Art League, Philadelphia Water Color Society, Delaware Valley Art League, The Sketch Club in Philadelphia, York Art Association and Phillips Mill Art Association, among others.
